Margaret K. Lewis School selected as one of 100 national winners; books support K–5 students
Washington, DC – April 2026 – Reading Is Fundamental (RIF) today announced that Margaret K. Lewis School (MKL) has been selected as one of 100 national winners of its Rally to Read 100 sweepstakes, a six-month initiative designed to ignite a love of reading for students in grades K–5 across the country.
As one of the national awardees, MKL has received 100 new books, generously donated by Barnes & Noble, curated to inspire young readers and expand access to engaging, high-quality texts.
The new books are being added to classroom libraries across campus, increasing opportunities for students to build literacy skills, strengthen communication, and develop a lifelong love of reading.
The sweepstakes is part of RIF’s Rally to Read 100 campaign, which encourages students, educators, and families to take on the challenge of reading 100 books over six months, culminating during National Reading Month. The campaign also provided resources such as themed book lists, virtual read-alouds, and student activities to support engagement and excitement around reading.
“At Reading Is Fundamental, we believe every child deserves access to books that spark curiosity and confidence,” said Alicia Levi, President and CEO of RIF. “As we celebrate 60 years of inspiring young readers, we are proud to provide 10,000 books in total prizes to help schools across the country build vibrant, diverse libraries that support student success.”
The Rally to Read 100 sweepstakes invited K–5 educators nationwide to enter their schools for a chance to receive 100 new books. Selected at random from thousands of entries, 100 schools were chosen, including Margaret K. Lewis School. With many students across the country continuing to face challenges in reading proficiency, access to high-quality, engaging books remains more important than ever.
“This recognition is a meaningful opportunity for our students. Access to engaging, high-quality books helps build confidence, communication, and a true love of reading. We are excited to place these books directly into our classrooms and continue growing strong readers at MKL.”
