Margaret K. Lewis School is proud to celebrate one of our own! Our dedicated nurse, Rachael Silas, has been named the 2025–2026 Bay District Schools Support Employee of the Year, an honor that reflects her extraordinary compassion, skill, and commitment to our students.

As a Licensed Practical Nurse who specializes in caring for our medically fragile elementary children, Rachael works in one of the most challenging and meaningful areas of pediatric care. Each day, she supports students with complex medical needs, including seizure management, G-tube feedings, allergies, medication administration, and choking risks, ensuring they are safe, comfortable, and ready to learn.

What truly sets Rachael apart is her ability to connect deeply with every child she serves. Many of her students are nonverbal, yet she has an exceptional gift for understanding their needs, emotions, and personalities. She listens beyond words and advocates for those who cannot always speak for themselves. Her calming presence brings peace and reassurance to families, who trust her completely with their children’s well-being.

Beyond her medical responsibilities, Rachael goes above and beyond to make each day special by celebrating birthdays, planning surprises, and filling our classrooms with joy and creativity. A devoted wife and proud mother of three, she brings the same love, resilience, and nurturing spirit to her work that she brings to her family.

We are incredibly grateful for Rachael’s service and proud to honor her as our 2025–2026 Support Employee of the Year. Her impact is felt every day, and our school is stronger because of her.
